Outers Lightning Launcher -- A nifty new portable clay pigeon-thrower

This portable waist-high trap will launch clays out to 60 yards, but the big benefit is that the throwing arm resets itself 75% after each cycle and you can cock, load and release while seated in one of the new breed of inexpensive folding camp chairs marketed by mass-merchandisers everywhere. Seating is critical to the enjoyment of the clay pigeon throwing function. Cocking the throwing arm the remaining 25% does not require gorilla-like arm strength and in point of fact my wife loaded and launched half a case of birds without a hitch.

I shoot my clays off the side of a mountain, over a valley, with nice fresh breezes from the Pacific Ocean. The cross-breezes sometimes cause clays to do tricks that would put a dove to shame. Since the Lightning Launcher will throw singles and two kind of doubles you are in for some challenging shots. Stacked doubles depart at the same angle about three or four feet apart and provide good practice, especially if you are shucking a pump gun. Inline doubles which are placed one behind the other on the throwing arm of the trap are a special challend to me. These depart at about a 60 degree angle to one another. Where I shoot, that puts one bird going into the wind (it drops like crazy, looking for the safety of the tree line), while the other is doing a dipsy-doodle in the cross wind. I use Skeet or Improved Cylinder chokes and found I had no trouble breaking birds with #9 shot. However, the second bird on in-line birds -- which gets pretty far out (35 or 40 yards) and falling by the time I got around to it -- really needed #8 shot for clean breaks.

When it's time to go home, the Lightning Launcher brearks down into three component parts: the throwing arm mechanism, the three legs and the mounting bracket -- all of which fit into a large cargo or duffel bag.
